Sorry, last time I posted was I was in NC. AT&T does NOT have good service on the trail. Verizon seems to be much better. I use other hikers phones to check in with Momma Bear.
Since the last post, I have gone about 195 miles. I reached VA today. Hitching a ride into town to reload on food. My roommate from Freshman year Aaron will join me tomorrow with Burton. Caty, my roommate from last year will bring him from Pittsburgh to Damascus. Thanks Caty!!! Don’t worry, Burton has Ruffwear hiking shoes and his own hammock.
I have gone about 470 miles so far, in 22 days. Right on target averaging 21 miles a day.
It has rained A LOT. OK, not as much as Texas and OK, but it has rained still a lot.
Last weekend a couple of hikers and I decided to trek together for a few days. They are Army Rangers. They asked if I thought I could keep up. I just said that I would try. Yeah, I kept up just fine
They definitely peaked my interest in the military, especially special forces. They said they would recommend me if I decided to join. Definitely something to think about. Definitely.
A couple of nights I was able to get spots at hostiles. One night a guy drank so much he passed out under my hammock. LMAO.
One shelter was closed due to a lot of “bear activity”.
Feet are doing much better. Maybe it is because I am not wearing hiking boots, maybe because my pack is lighter. Whatever the reason I am doing better than a couple weeks ago.
Enjoy the pics below. Not sure exactly where some were taken, definitely in the ~195 miles between Northern NC and the TN/VA border. Not necessarily in any order either. Sorry.
Hitching a ride into Damascus the driver said I looked like I could use a beer. Ya think????? Thank you!!!!!!
